Atomgripz Certification

Atomgripz Certification is an official grip strength certification system for closing Atomgripz hand grippers. Certification is available for the 3-Band, 4-Band, 5-Band, and 6-Band grippers.

Certification Levels

Level Gripper
3-Band Atomgripz 3-Band
4-Band Atomgripz 4-Band
5-Band Atomgripz 5-Band
6-Band Atomgripz 6-Band "Reaper"

Each level must be certified separately. Successfully certifying on a higher-level gripper does not automatically award certification for the lower levels.

Gripper Spreads

Atomgripz recognizes three handle-spread categories:

Category Handle Spread
Narrow 40 to 60 mm
Standard 60.01 to 70 mm
Wide 70.01 mm or greater

Certification Rules

Certification may be performed using either a Table No Set (TNS) or a set close.

For a TNS close, the gripper is picked up from a surface and closed without using the opposite hand to position or pre-close the gripper.

For a set close, the athlete may use the opposite hand to position and partially close the gripper. Before completing the close, a setting block of at least 20 mm must pass between the handles. Atomgripz allows a 1 mm measurement tolerance, so a block measuring at least 19 mm is accepted.

During the certification attempt:

  1. The setting block, number of bands, and spring diameter must be clearly shown and measured on video.
  2. After the set, the opposite hand may not assist with the close, support the wrist, or hold the spring.
  3. The closing hand may not contact the body or another supporting surface during the attempt.
  4. The gripper is closed with the spring facing upward toward the thumb.
  5. The handles must visibly touch and remain closed for at least one second.
  6. The gripper's handle spread must be measured and shown after the successful close.
  7. The gripper should remain visible in the video throughout the attempt.

Chalk (magnesium carbonate) is permitted.

Submission

Certification attempts are submitted to Atomgripz by video for review. Successful athletes are added to the official Atomgripz certification lists with their name, country, certification date, and a link to the certification video.

The gripper does not have to be owned by the athlete, but it must be a genuine Atomgripz gripper. An existing gripper may be used, and purchasing a special certification or Mastery gripper is not required.
