Table No Set

A table-no-set close, commonly abbreviated TNS, begins with the gripper resting on a table or other firm surface. The athlete picks it up and closes it using only the closing hand; the other hand may not position or pre-close the handles.

Standard sequence

  1. Place the gripper on the required surface at its natural spread.
  2. Show the gripper and spread if the rules require it.
  3. Pick it up with the closing hand.
  4. Position and close it without touching it with the other hand.
  5. Show handle contact clearly.

The exact surface, camera view and post-attempt procedure depend on the governing rules.

RB Certification example

Griffkraft-Deutschland's RB Certification is a documented TNS program. Its rules require the certification gripper to begin on a firm surface, have its spread filmed, be picked up and closed with one hand, then be returned to the surface for another spread measurement. The gripper must remain in view and may not be altered.[1]

TNS is stricter than an ordinary no-set claim because the table start prevents the athlete from beginning with the gripper already arranged in the hand.

Documentation

A clear TNS video should show the untouched gripper on the surface, the entire pickup, the closing hand throughout the attempt, and unmistakable handle contact. If a certification requires before-and-after spread measurements, those are part of the feat rather than optional context.
